As well as obvious ones like virus checkers and firewalls, there are a number here that you might not have thought of, but I'm sure everyone will find indispensible. A Screen Capture program (which will enable you to grab "un-snaggable" pics), or a Digital Image Viewer (which also enables you to convert formats such as .png to the more common .jpg used by every picture editor) are two such examples.

I've only just discovered this "index", but it endorses my views on "best in class" that I've learned over many years in the computer industry.
