The best thing would be to get you a complte new copy of XP. I can send you a CD, but that would, of course, mean that you would have to give me your address, and you may not be willing to do that.

: ty for replying, and my goodness you see to know pc's inside out, i bet if u had this one it wld not mis behave again. it needs a slap.

ummmm regarding postal address, sadly i cant give that out, it isnt due to not trusting you, its parents etc...... momma may still remember so can fill u in if your puzzld.

regarding IM i normally when pc works use ebuddy.com because its online, even when pc worked the yahoo IM on pc takes alot of memory, and so it aint gonna cope right now, and ebuddy u cant send or receive files with :( i hate the pc so very much that i think we both need therapy.

i dont get why when i place the xp cd into pc and tell it to reinstall itself that it refuses to do so because of that root file being missing, and why wont it format itself, it tells me it cant do that because other programs/utilities that use it are in use...but nothing else is open. we are thinking about buying a new pc, and were talking yesterday of looking online at pc world until my mum remindered us we would need internet for that........... : ut it is sorta working at moment so we may go looking to ship it into france cos i need english.

Sorry that I was out when you tried to talk to me with IM this morning. I did get your message, and will do my best to talk to you when you're next available. I'm confident that we CAN get things working, but I do have to say that your idea of a new PC sounds very good.

From the little I do know so far, you DO somehow need at least an up-to-date copy of Windows. Were you still in England I'd be happy for you to bring your PC to me so I could sort it out for you, but I can't realistically get over to France in the near future, so it's difficult to see how I could give you the things that your current PC needs.

Please DON'T go to PC-World. If I gave you my full opinion of them they would probably sue me. I DO recommend Dell. There are many cheaper, but Dell give better value for money than any other well known "name". I don't know how Dell (UK) would consider supplying to France, which is a possible drawback, but ANY Windows software can be configured to work in English. I certainly CAN help you to do that, if needed.

I do understand that you won't want to buy in France - if for no other reason than that they would supply a French keyboard. American readers may not know that the keyboard layout IS Country specific. On most non-UK keyboards there isn't an easy way to type a £ sign.

I hope we can get you working better soon!

yeah see i was makin pc jealous yesterday by showing it a pc on the DELL website after pc world cos pc world like ya said dun ship abroad, and dell seem cheaper!! but the pc auto turned off and rebooted :( clearly didnt like its replacment.

ummm no worries with my IM messege i log on at like 7am uk time and log off at like 3pm uk time, im 1 hr ahead of you see. so it is no probs me just leaving u offliners, pm's etc and here to get to in your own time no ruush, at least it can get me on the net.

i wld prefer uk pc cos the keyboard and language setup of XP, iv enuf probs without a language prob too, etc, so hence looking to UK but i saw the DELL website and they seem ok. what ya think? france pcs are not good value either and dun last long

ummmmm think i answered everything, i will get on with downloading avast, we did have it before it conflicted with spyware gaurd which we got rid of now. we use avg free, zone alarm fire wall, and thats it pc man gave us the illgeal copy of xp here. said we only needed genuine if we bought a new pc........you tend to trust and believe what pc men tell ya especially when yours is busted and u need it back asap.
