Check out this link...
http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/patch.asp There is a scam to infect your computer...using a cleverly disguised email that looks like it comes from Microsoft.....DO NOT FOLLOW ANY OF THE INSTRUCTIONS...It is a Nasty Virus called Swen-A....Swen-A is another virus delivery disguised as a Microsft Security update mailing, a mass-mailing worm which uses its own SMTP engine to spread itself by e-mail (and through file-sharing networks) and attempts to kill antivirus and personal firewall programs. Like I said...Very Nasty... If you get one of these emails....DELETE IT!!!!!

Warn ASAP everyone ASAP you know not to open an e-mail with:
"Mail Server Report" in the subject line. This one is real! This is a BAD Virus. Please don't open! Delete the e-mail. This one checks out at www.snopes.com/computer/v...server.asp It is a bona fide virus; hence, the warning. Any email with "Mail Server Report" in the subject line is a new virus and should not be opened. It comes with an attachment in 'zip format'. Apparently, there is a Zip file attached; so, be very leery of anything with a zip file on it. The message tells you that a worm was detected in an e-mail that you sent out and asks you to open and install the attachment to fix the problem. DO NOT DO IT! It IS the problem!BR> VERIFIED ON SNOPES: www.snopes.com/computer/v...server.asp

New Virus: "Robot"
Yes, unfortunately it's true. Another virus has been discovered and it is quickly working its way around the Internet these days. The name of the virus is "Robot" and it looks as if this one has perfected the use of trickery. The virus comes in through an e-mail, with the scammers conning you into thinking they're going to help you, but they actually infect you instead. Keep reading for more details on this! The e-mail you might see says something about a robot detecting abnormal activity from your IP address when you're sending out e-mails. It then goes on to say that this is probably happening because of another virus and they offer you a patch to install. The patch will supposedly remove the virus files and stop any further "bad" e-mails from going out. They then tell you that if you don't get the patch, your account will be blocked and you won't be able to send any e-mails at all. Once you install the patch, a Trojan then installs itself into your Windows system folder under the name of "windev-72b5-203e.sys." The Trojan virus has also been found under other names, including Trojan.Packed.13, W32/Nuwar@MM, Worm:Win32/Nuwar.JT and Mal/Dorf-A. Now, as you can see, this scam is perfect, because when most people are told they're infected with a virus, they do whatever they can to get rid of it. That is, despite the fact they may be hurting themselves even more in the end. So, the bottom line is, if you see anything like this pop up in your e-mail, don't do anything with it. Just ignore it, delete it and keep on moving. Stay safe, my friends!

On the Loose: A QuickTime Bug
I hate having to bring bad news your way, but there is a new bug on the loose that threatens both Windows XP and Vista and you all really should know about it. On Monday (November 26, 2007), Pcworld.com posted a story about a vulnerability in the QuickTime program. It looks like the security hole in QuickTime allows hackers to access your system and use it to send spam, spyware and adware across the Web. It may also allow them to access your passwords to get into your sensitive information. Yikes! This attack is now active on the Internet and many security consultants have found that people are writing viruses from it. The good news though is that you can only be affected by this bug if you watch certain streaming videos or if you're convinced to download a new file for QuickTime. At this time, the security hole has not been patched by Apple (the creators of QuickTime) or by any other security software companies. The only advice I can give is to be careful! Do not visit any Web sites you do not trust. Do not watch Internet based videos on Web sites you have never been to before and finally, do not download any files that end in .qtl, unless you absolutely trust the provider. Until next time, stay safe out there, my friends!

First Thing... Are Zip Files Ok To Open Up?
I Was Told Never To Open Up Zip Files. And Second... I Have Windows Live One Care And It Does A Complete PC Tune Up Where It Scans Everything From Virus Protection Down To Backing Up My Files. And It Does It Once A Week For Me. It Also Has Virus & Spyware Monitoring & Phishing Filter. And Its Always Updating. |
