Here's what really happened:
Buy a beautiful birthday cake, chocolate with whipped cream frosting.
Buy a large balloon bouquet.
Buy candles and hats.
Buy presents.
Transport the whole thing over the mountains from the California Desert to San Diego, a 2 hour drive.
ADD a 1/2 hour delay at the BP checkpoint.
Result:
Frosting melts, cake liquifies.
Ice cream melts into soup.
Frequent shifts in air pressure causes balloons to explode
Candles get lost in the car.
Presents are WRONG!
Hats are stoopyd.
Sigh.
At least the take-out lunch was okay.

Donna called me this evening in tears.It seems that she had read the above post and thought I was upset with her, that I felt she was not appreciative of the party William and I had thrown for her.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I am, as my Mom used to say, a pound of heart and not half an ounce of brains. My greatest gift, I think, is being able to laugh at anything, especially my own mishaps.
Donna was a wonderful hostess and only laughed at the cake (which I will henceforth refer to as the "birthday pudding") once. For five minutes.
I would never publicly humiliate any woman without her express permission.

I hope this clarifies everything.
