Well we use that like you might use 'damn'.. and it's actually spelt bugger but with my accent it comes out as buggah..

It's slang and can be a term of endearment, a swear word or it can even be a verb.. like bugger off! Pardon me!

ok! sorry when I get to the down under,Im gonna have trouble with that one,just doesnt sound like a very manly cuss word.I have trouble calling someone a mate also.Especially if its a man.

I don't think anyone that comes here is expected to use our slang. I've been called mate and don't like it much.. but it's normal between men, like 'buddy' which more people use here now too..
